Features
What the HowlAlert menu bar app does today, and what's coming to iPhone and Apple Watch.
Available now — the Mac app
- Live 5-hour window — both sides at a glance: how much you've used and how much is left in reserve, plus a plain-language time-to-empty, updated as you work.
- Auto-detected limit — a P90 estimate from your own history, with a remote override when limits change. No hard-coded numbers.
- Per-model breakdown — see which models spent the window, with a small sparkline for spikes.
- Local notifications — one nudge when you cross into Low or Almost-out, re-armed only after you recover. You set the thresholds.
- Stop-hook refresh — opt-in Claude Code hook for instant updates the moment a turn ends. One toggle in Settings; no manual JSON editing.
- Native menu bar UI — Liquid Glass popover, keyboard shortcuts, launch at login, and a live "updated Ns ago" footer.
- Demo Mode — preview the popover with sample data.
Coming soon — iPhone and Apple Watch
- iPhone — a Live Activity and Dynamic Island that count your window down on the Lock Screen.
- Apple Watch — a complication that turns amber before you run out, so a glance is enough.
- Push alerts — your low / almost-out nudges delivered to every paired device.
The Mac app is free. The iPhone and Apple Watch apps will be unlocked by the paid Pro ($4.99/month) and Max ($29.99/year) tiers — both grant the same features, both include a 7-day free trial. See pricing on the home page.
Privacy by design
HowlAlert reads only your local ~/.claude usage files. It never connects to
Anthropic's services and never sees your prompts or code. The free Mac app is
fully local. When you add the iPhone and Apple Watch apps, our server relays just
the usage summary — the percent left and reset time — to push it to your devices,
and stores only device tokens. Your prompts, code, and usage history stay on your
Mac. See the privacy policy.
