Nightly Builds

Opt into WolfWave's Nightly update channel to test the newest builds off main before they ship. Warned, opt-in, and easy to leave. Stable stays the default.

WolfWave ships on two update channels. Stable is the default: tested, released versions. Nightly is opt-in. It tracks the newest builds straight off main, so you see features and fixes before they reach a stable release.

Nightly is for people who want to help test. It can be buggy, it changes often, and it comes with no support promise. If that's not you, stay on Stable.

Switch to Nightly

  1. Open Settings → Software Update.
  2. Under Update Channel, pick Nightly (dev).
  3. Read the warning, then confirm.

WolfWave checks the nightly feed right away. From then on, automatic update checks pull nightly builds, signed and notarized the same as stable.

Go back to Stable

  1. Settings → Software Update.
  2. Pick Stable under Update Channel.

That's it. The next stable release will offer itself to you like normal.

If you'd rather not wait, reinstall the latest Stable build and you're back on the normal track immediately. WolfWave never offers you a lower version than the one you're running, so switching the channel alone doesn't move you backwards — it just puts you in line for the next release.

What you should know

  • Same signing. Nightly builds carry the same Developer ID signature and notarization as stable, so Gatekeeper treats them the same.
  • Unstable by design. These are dev builds. Expect rough edges and frequent updates.
  • Built every night. A new nightly goes out daily, but only when something actually changed, so quiet days don't ship a pointless update.
  • Named for what's coming. A nightly reads like 2.1.0-nightly+a1b2c3d — that's the release these changes are heading into, not one that shipped.
  • No support. Bug reports are welcome, but nightly isn't a supported track.
  • Homebrew installs can't use it. When WolfWave is installed through Homebrew, updates are managed by Homebrew and the channel picker is hidden. Use brew upgrade wolfwave for the stable cask.

Your channel choice sticks across updates, so once you're on Nightly you keep getting nightly builds until you switch back.

One-time reinstall if you grabbed the August 5, 2026 nightly. That build (2.1.0-nightly+4c36bef) shipped with a build number so high that no later build can reach it, so it will never update itself. Download the latest Stable or nightly DMG once and you're fixed for good — the numbering behind this has been corrected and won't happen again.
